Families First Bicycle Assembly Project November 13th 2009

The Sacramento Wheelmen participates as an organization annually do a major community service project by assembling a large number of bicycles for the EMQ Families First organization. The bikes are given to foster children at Christmas events in the area.  The Wheelmen’s role is to assemble the bikes and then to be present at the Christmas giveaway party to make final adjustments as necessary. Thank you to all the Wheelmen who participated and a very special thank you to Dick Nussbaum, Project Coordinator, for organizing this special event.

Wheelmen Participate at Bike Rodeo

Wheelmen helped at all the stations. There were more than 100 kids participating. The stations were:

1.  Registration & Inspection to check over bikes and bike & helmet fitting.  Wheelmen were in the Sick Bay to fix flats, getting chain kinks out and other mechanical problems.

2.  A Start & Stop Station to demonstrate how to start with leverage and stopping.

3.  Scanning Station teaching the kids to look both ways and behind them before going out of a driveway and in traffic.

4. Avoiding obstacles. It will end with a slow race to see who can get to the finish last without stopping or putting their foot down.  Wheelmen were in the Sick Bay to fix flats, getting chain kinks out and other mechanical problems.
